When a refresher makes sense

You still know the fundamentals, but you would rather not rediscover mask clearing, regulator handling, buoyancy and ascents on a holiday dive. The session can also be useful after a change of equipment.

How the session is structured

We start with a conversation about your recent diving experience and check the equipment. In confined water we repeat the skills where you lack routine. A joint open-water dive follows.

Standard rental equipment, air, weights and regular fees are included.

  • Theory review
  • Equipment check and configuration
  • Skills practice in confined water
  • One open-water dive
  • Debriefing after both practical parts

If more is missing than expected

Sometimes the water reveals that a single refresher is not enough. In that case we discuss which additional session would make professional sense. No further chargeable stage is added without prior agreement.

Getting back in

Tell me your certification, the approximate number of your dives and the date of your last dive.

How your first session works

The most common reason someone does not enquire about a course is not the price. It is not knowing what will actually happen. So here it is, before you have to ask.

  1. We talk beforehand

I ask about your certifications, your diving experience, your health, your own equipment and your goal. Not as a form, but as a conversation. After that I know where we start, and you know what is coming.

  2. You do the theory when it suits you

You prepare the theory digitally, at your own pace and from home. Whatever stays open we go through online or with me in the vaulted cellar. You will not sit in a seminar room or a weekend course.

  3. We meet at the base on Hasenplatz 4

The historic vaulted cellar in Herrenberg is the starting point for theory, equipment and preparation. Where we get into the water depends on the course. That is settled before the date, not on the morning itself.

  4. You help build up the equipment

We assemble it together instead of handing you a finished set. I explain the regulator, the jacket or wing and the hand signals we will need in the water. If you know how something fits together, you will also notice later when something is off.

  5. Into the water in small steps

There is a briefing before every dive. We start in protected, shallow water so you can get used to breathing through the regulator in peace. Every task is broken down so it stays manageable on its own.

  6. If something does not work, we repeat it

If a skill does not hold, we break it down further and do it again. Repetitions within a normal scope are included in the course fee. There is no reason to fake something that is not yet reliable.

  7. At the end we talk it through

Right after the session you get feedback: what already works reliably and what we will work on next time. Certification comes when the skills are solid, not when the dates have run out.

What to bring

  • Swimwear and a towel
  • Something to drink and a small snack
  • Your certifications and logbook, if you have them
  • Your own equipment if you have any. Otherwise I will lend you everything
  • Your questions. Including the ones you think are silly.

And what will not happen

  • No group pressure. There is nobody you would have to keep up with.
  • No time pressure. A session does not end because the next group is waiting.
  • No pushing on against your own judgement. You say stop, we stop.
  • No certification on request. A card you cannot live up to will not help you underwater.

If anything is still open, just ask me beforehand. That is exactly what the preliminary conversation is for.
